The Figure 8 knot is made in the end of a rope. It is bulkier than an Overhand knot.

 

 Step #1

Make a loop.  Figure 8 - Step 1

 

 Step #2

Bring the end around behind the standing part.  Figure 8 - Step 2

 Step #3

Put the end through the loop.  Figure 8 - Step 3

 

 Finished Figure 8

Dress and set the knot.  Finished Figure 8
